In honor of World Crocodile Day, Fauna and Fauna “Roev Brook” told interesting facts about reptiles.
On the eve of the holiday, as part of the All-Russian Information and Educational Campaign “Living Water”, funny and cognitive games for everyone were held in the park. After the program, the participants and other visitors to Roeva Stream went to Aquaterraium to look at the green culprits of the celebration: smooth -legged and crocodile kayman, as well as a beautiful stupid crocodile Eve.
Employees of the park said that, unlike most reptiles, crocodiles do not melt. Their growth continues throughout life, and the skin grows with the body. It is covered with hillocks and plates, which are formed due to different growth rate of the epidermis. In the heart of crocodiles there are four cameras, like birds and mammals. This adaptation helps reptiles increase the effectiveness of the separation of blood streams.
Most crocodiles have golden eyes, but there are two species with an unusual appearance: the stupid crocodile of the iris is almost black, and the smooth -legged Kaiman is brown. On land, they are able to develop speeds up to 17 km/h, in water – up to 40 km/h, and jump out of the water 2.5 meters.
In the wild, crocodiles can live 70-80 years, and in zoos-up to 100 and even more.
Recall that the last three weeks in the “Roal Ruchee” have been shooting for the popular science program “Dialogues about animals”, which is conducted by Ivan Zatevakhin. In total, more than 55 plots were removed, which will be collected in 14 issues. Of these, the audience of the Culture channel will be able to learn in detail about the pets of the Flora and Fauna Park and its employees.
