Hamas has time until Sunday night to accept the plan for the future of Gaza strip submitted by US President Donald Trump. A highly responsible for the group says that the Palestinian Islamist Movement wants to reach an agreement to put an end to the war, according to The Guardian.
“Hamas wants a lot to reach an agreement to put an end to the war and immediately launch the process of exchange of prisoners according to the conditions on the ground,” said a high in charge of the organization, under the cover of anonymity, on the day when the ultimatum given by Trump expires.
“The occupation should not prevent the implementation of President Trump's plan. If the occupation has real intentions to reach an agreement, Hamas is prepared,” he added.
The US President warned Hamas on Saturday that he will not “tolerate any delay” in applying his plan to release the hostages he owns in the Gaza strip.
The Hamas negotiators, who came from Doha, should arrive on Sunday in Cairo before traveling to Sharm El-Sheikh to participate in indirect negotiations with the Israeli delegation, according to the High Manager.
A Palestinian source close to Hamas told AFP that the two delegations will be in the same building, but far from the media, according to news.ro.
“The negotiations aim to discuss the calendar to prepare the conditions on the field for the transfer of prisoners held in Gaza, as a prelude to the launch of the prisoners' exchange process,” said the source quoted by AFP.
Also, the source close to the Islamic movement said that Hamas insisted, in communications with mediators, on the need for Israel to suspend any military operation throughout the Gaza strip, to cease all air, recognition and drone flights and withdraw from the inside.
“In parallel with the cessation of Israeli military activities, Hamas and resistance factions will also suspend their military operations,” she added.
Discussions should also include the examination of the maps provided by Israel showing the itineraries and the withdrawal calendar, which will coincide with the prisoners' exchange process, according to the source. The Hamas delegation will also present the lists of Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel in exchange for Israeli prisoners.
According to Trump's plan, Israel should release 250 Palestinian prisoners who are sentenced to life imprisonment and over 1,700 detainees from the Gaza Strip arrested after October 7, 2023, the date of the Hamas attack that triggered the ongoing war.
