An unknown drone paralyzed the operation of an airport in Norway overnight: “We concluded the operation without finding the pilot”

The activity of the airport in the Norwegian city of Brenneisund was paralyzed on the night of September 30, after an unknown drone was observed flying near the runway. The incident has raised security concerns and is investigated by the Norwegian authorities.

The first appeal to the police was received at 8:17 pm, signaling the presence of an unidentified flying object in the Norwegian airspace. About two hours later, the employees of the Brenneisund Airport Control Tower confirmed that they observe a drone in the immediate vicinity of the airport and demanded the urgent intervention of law enforcement, reports the public station in Norway, NRK.
Upon arrival on the spot, the police followed the drone in the sky, but failed to identify or locate the person who controlled it.
“After a long search, we ended the operation on the spot without finding the pilot”, said Morten Sørensen, a spokesman for the Nordland police district.
The representatives of the airport said that the last scheduled flight managed to land according to planning, but the air traffic was suspended for the rest of the night. The activity is to be resumed only on the morning of October 1.
The incident is not an isolated one. On September 22, two people were detained in Oslo following an alert related to the presence of drones in the Norwegian capital, and unauthorized flights were reported above the military area of Akershus, as well as in the airspace of Denmark.
The event comes against the background of increased tensions in the region. On September 30, Newsweek reported that the United States has transferred Boeing P-8 Poseidon's maritime patrol aircraft to monitor the activity of Russian submarines to the Northern Atlantic.
