Several Swiss mountain passers -by were closed on Saturday due to snowfall. Up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow fell at altitudes of over 2,000 meters, writes Swiss Info.
Furka, Gotthard, Grimsel, Nufenen, Pragel, San Bernardino and Sustten passers-by have been closed for safety, according to the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) website.
Closing on these routes in winter usually takes place between November and May or June.
Up to 20 centimeters of snow in the Alps
The Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (Meteoswiss) said it will snow between 1,600 and 2,000 meters for Saturday. Over this altitude, up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow are expected until evening, especially in the central Alps.
This snow was caused by a so-called high-altitude depressing area, Meteoswiss explained on his site. It installed above the Alps last month and has remained almost stationary since then.
However, this situation will not take long: the weather phenomenon is expected to move southeast during Saturday.
