Karol Nawrocki: Poland should follow the path of developing its own nuclear potential
Nawrocki's comments come after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during the Munich Security Conference that he was in talks with France about a potential European nuclear defense. Merz called for ordering transatlantic relations in the face of confusion related to Donald Trump's second term.
Nawrocki said in an interview for Polsat News that Poland should follow the path of developing its own nuclear potential, respecting all international regulations.
Asked whether the United States would allow Poland to take this direction since Warsaw is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Nawrocki replied: “I don't know, but we have to move in a direction that will allow us to start working.”
Warsaw signed a treaty with France last year which, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, would open the way to possible shared protection against French nuclear missiles.

What will the president do with SAFE?

Nawrocki said it was too early to say whether he would sign a law that would improve the use of SAFE funds in Poland.
On Friday, the Sejm passed an act implementing the EU SAFE armament program. It will enable the establishment of a special fund managed by BGK through which money from the program can be spent. Now the Senate will consider the bill.
SAFE program. EUR 150 billion at stake
The SAFE Instrument is a program that aims to strengthen the defense of EU Member States. It envisages a total of EUR 150 billion of support – including in the form of low-interest loans – primarily for the purchase of military equipment, especially those produced in Europe. Poland is the largest beneficiary of this loan program with approved financing in the amount of EUR 43.7 billion.
Government representatives emphasize that the quick adoption of the act is crucial, because the signing of the loan agreement and payment of the first tranche of funds in the amount of 15% are planned for mid-March. the entire amount. This money is to go to the SAFE Financial Instrument for Enhancing Security – a fund to be established under the act under consideration. The money that will go to the fund for projects related to strengthening security will be allocated primarily to the Minister of Defense, but also to the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
