Russia used the leadership of the IAEA for its propaganda – the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine

The conduct of these “celebrations” against the backdrop of the illegal occupation by the Russians of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant looks especially hypocritical, the Foreign Ministry emphasized. A separate concern in the department caused a visit to this event General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossy.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Russia actually used the agency’s leadership for its propaganda, while Ukraine expects objectivity, independence and impartiality from the IAEA.

The State Corporation Rosatom, which organized the “triumphs”, is an integral part of the military-industrial complex of Russia and the instrument of occupation of Ukrainian nuclear facilities, primarily the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. The criminal intervention of the occupied station poses a direct threat of nuclear security both in Ukraine and beyond it. Not only the basic principles of the Magate, but also are violated. The fundamental norms of international humanitarian law, ”the Foreign Ministry noted.

The department also referred to a new investigation into Truth Hounds human rights activists, documenting the involvement of Rosatom in torture, persecution and the occupation administration of the ZAES.

Ukraine requires Rosatom to stop interference, free illegally retained workers and stop pressure on the staff, according to the principles of the IAEA. Kyiv supports the technical presence of the agency at Ukrainian atomic facilities, but condemns attempts to legitimize the occupation by contacts with Russian structures.

Context

Last time, Grossy was in Moscow on February 7, when he met with the executive director of Rosat, Alexei Likhachev, the general director informed. They discussed the safety of ZAES.

On September 15, the head of the IAEA took a picture with Likhachev and wrote that they “met for the exchange of views”, in particular, on nuclear security at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which was occupied by the aggressor country, from where Likhachev came.

At the 69th General Conference, the IAEA adopted a resolution calling for Russia to immediately de-EAS.
