The German police opened an investigation after discovering cables cut on a railway line in the west of the country, an incident as a possible act of sabotage “Political motivated”. The authorities are on maximum alert against the background of intensifying the attacks attributed to Russia, notes AFP.

A Köln police spokesman said that Sunday night around 1:15 am found “More cut cables” at Leverkusen Rheindorf, a locality between Köln and Düsseldorf. The incident has caused major disturbances in regional rail transport, and investigators do not exclude a political motivation.
In recent months, the damages brought to the public infrastructure in Germany have grown visibly. The country, one of Ukraine's most firm supporters from the Russian invasion of February 2022, accuses Moscow of taking a war “hybrid”which includes sabotage operations and cyber attacks against the West.
Last week, German intelligence services reported record losses for the national economy, of 289.2 billion euros, caused by cyber attacks and sabotages on the account of Russia and China. On September 9, a fire at two electricity pillars near Berlin left about 50,000 people and companies, for hours or even days. And in that case, the police suspected an intentional action.
At the beginning of the month, the German authorities launched a public information campaign, warning about the attempts of Russian secret services to recruit users on social networks for espionage and sabotage activities.
The message transmitted was firm: “Do not become disposable agents.”
