The chairwoman of the EC pointed out, however, that if the negotiations from the USA are not satisfying, customs will come into force. She added that work is underway on subsequent duties.

Donald Trump surprised everyone on Wednesday By announcing another increase in customs duties on goods from China, while suspending the increase in customs duties on all other countries for a period of 90 days. American duties on Chinese goods are now to be 125 percent.
As he told journalists after the decision was announced, finance secretary Scott Bessent, the reason for suspension of duties was not chaos and drops on the stock exchange, but an overwhelming number of countries wanting to negotiate trade conditions from the USA.
Earlier, the American president in social media appealed to remain calm, which was interpreted as a reference to tensions on the stock exchange in response to his duties. Donald Trump emphasized that this is a “great time” to buy.
“Keep calm! Everything will work well. The USA will be bigger and better than ever before,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
