– The disclosed correspondence between the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Finance shows that in the state budget for next year there is a lack of huge money for maintaining scientific infrastructure, calculation centers, supercomputers, for international research projects, but also for such basic things as valorisation of benefits, assistance for students and doctoral students – said Zandberg at a Friday press conference in Toruń.

According to the leader Together in the Friday presentation of the Minister for Supervision over the implementation of the government's policy Maciej Berk, there was no information about raising expenditure on science, research and development. In his opinion, science expenditure in relation to general budget expenditure is record low.

– I think this is a fundamental mistake. (…) This means that we will lose hundreds of talents in the following year, people who will give up their scientific work that could develop our state, our economy. We will deal with other unrealized research programs, which will simply be extinguished, because there will be no funds for their implementation. The infrastructure itself, which is needed to conduct scientific activity, is threatened – emphasized the MP.

Zandberg added that this approach is short -sighted, and saving at polytechnics, research institutes, universities is the way to keep Poland in economic and social development.

The leader together announced that during work on the budget in the parliament, his party would make amendments to the state budget project, which will raise expenses for learning, research and development to such a level that will give Poland a chance that Poland will continue to grow.

Zandberg pointed out that next year's budget is planning record-breaking defense expenses, but it is worrying that only a fraction of a percent is expenditure on research and development.

– We buy technologies, armament and ammunition from other countries, but we do not invest funds in building our own production capacity. We do not invest in our polytechnics, research institutes. We do not invest funds so that Poland can become self -sufficient when it comes to our defense needs. This must change – emphasized the co -chairman together.

He added that “it is high time that among the government's priorities, the one who did not find a place in the speech of Minister Berk.”

At the end of August, the Council of Ministers adopted a draft budget act for 2026, in which income of approx. PLN 647 billion was planned, expenses for approx. PLN 919 billion and a deficit not greater than PLN 272 billion, i.e. 6.5 percent. GDP. On the expenditure side is planned, among others PLN 247.8 billion for health care and PLN 200 billion for defense.

The project of next year's budget included in the task system shows that the planned consolidated amount of expenditure on higher education and education will amount to PLN 44.26 billion. Most of this amount, because PLN 41.12 billion is to be allocated to manage the Higher Education and Science System, including the education of students, doctoral students and scientific staff (expenditure for scholarship exchange or material assistance for students and doctoral students was also included here).

A smaller part of the consolidated amount of expenses, namely PLN 3.14 billion, is to be allocated to scientific research for practical applications – this task is to be carried out by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Mon, Łukasiewicz and NCBr. (PAP)
