US President Donald Trump on Monday attacked New York's democratic governor, Kathy Hoch, because she expressed her support in New York municipal elections for Zohran Mamdani, a candidate of the left-wing of the Democratic Party and which Trump qualified as a “little communist,” AFP reports.
“This is an evolution (of the events) quite shocking and a very sad news for the city of New York (…). Washington will follow this situation very close. There is no reason to throw the money out the window,” wrote the US president on his social network TRUTH Social.
Three Democratic and Republican candidates will dispute the votes of New York on November 4, but precisely this young member of the 33-year-old Municipal Council, “socialist” claimed, is still at a great distance in the first place.
On Sunday, the state governor expressed his support for him, stating that the fight against the high cost of life, which Zohran Mamdani placed in the center of his campaign, had always been his “priority”.
“As governors, we have taken measures to achieve this goal, especially reducing income taxes for the middle class and making free school tables for all students. But there is still much work,” wrote Kathy Hoch.
“Taking into account the abject and destructive policies coming from Washington every day, I needed to know that the future mayor would not be ready to give up even the smallest centimeter in front of President Trump,” she wrote.
This is not the first time that Donald Trump is in particular for the New York elections, a city where he is originally and where he has built a large part of his career.
Asked on Friday at Fox News, Trump told Zohran Mamdani: “It seems to win.” “And this is a rebellion. It is also a rebellion against the bad candidates,” he said.
Several media informed about a possible withdrawal of the mayor at the end of the mandate, Eric Adams, fragile of accusations of corruption and in difficulty in polls, in exchange for a position in the Trump administration. But so far, the target has always denied this information.
