“I do not understand the decisions anymore.” At the height of the political crisis in France, Macron is attacked by his allies / President's last attempt

The political crisis in France has upset the presidential camp, and Emmanuel Macron, who asked Sébastien Lecornu to continue negotiations to try to form a coalition, is more isolated than ever, AFP, Le Monde and Le Figaro.

The leader of the Horizons Party, Édouard Philippe, urged Emmanuel Macron to resign before the end of the mandate, a proposal that aroused astonishment, considering that he comes from a traditional ally of the president.

Philippe proposed the organization of “anticipated presidential elections” after adopting the budget for 2026.

Speaking of a “collapse of the state”, the former prime minister, who intends to run for the following presidential, said that France can not live so 18 months. “It's too much,” he said, according to AFP.

The day before, another former head of the Government, once very close to Emmanuel Macron, Gabriel Attal, launched an attack, suddenly distanced from the head of state.

Attal said that “like many French, no longer understand the president's decisions.” These decisions “give the impression of a determined desire to keep control,” he added, according to Le Figaro.

The attacks of the Allies seem to complicate even more the impossible situation in which Macron is, after the surprising resignation of the government of Sébastien Lecorn, Monday morning.

The National Assembly (RN), the far right party of Marine Le Pen, requested the convening of the anticipations, while the radical leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon insisted on Macron's dismissal.

The president was surprised on Monday while walking alone on the banks of the Seine and spoke on the phone, an illustration of the isolation of the French leader in one of the most serious political crises in the recent history of the country.

One last attempt

Finally, the result of Macron's deliberations was an unexpected and possibly disappointing for many. He was in charge of the resigning prime minister Lecornu to lead a last round of negotiations until Wednesday, to “define an action and stability platform”.

The approach, many said, seems to do with failure from the beginning.

“Let's move on. Try to only win time, it is ridiculous, it is melodramatic. Let's put an end to this situation,” said Ecologist Sandrine Rousseau.

“Confidence is destroyed,” said Agnès Evren, senator and spokesperson for the Conservative Party Les Républicins (LR), who was part of the Lecorn government.

The chief of LR, the resigning interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, who caused the crisis threatening on Sunday evening that he will leave this government to protest, in particular, against Bruno Le Maire, however, his position on Tuesday.

He proposed that LR participate in a “cohabitation” government with Macron's party, provided that LR “does not dilute” in the presidential camp.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Lecornu convened his allies at 9:00 at the matignon. At this meeting in Mitignon, to which Édouard Philippe was present, the presidents of the two Houses of Parliament were also invited: Yaël Braun-Pivet (Renaissance-Macron's Party) and Gérard Larcher (LR).

Even if they reach a compromise, these new negotiations will not necessarily be translated by a renewal of Sébastien Lecornu's mandate, according to people close to Emmanuel Macron.

In the case of a failure, the president will assume his “responsibilities”, said the same source, suggesting that Macron takes into account a new dissolution of the assembly.

Le Monde wrote that the spectrum of the dissolution of Parliament is used by Macron to force a compromise.

Left dispersed

The negotiations are carried out under the threat of a new censorship motion from the left or RN.

However, the socialists insisted that a new government is possible, if it has a left prime minister.

The leader of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, asked the president “a change of steering” with the arrival of a “left government” at the matignon.

Several voices also proposed the “all” of the left formations to “meet (Tuesday) in a neutral place”.

The Socialist Party announced on the evening of Monday, but it will not participate “in the presence of LFI”. The leader of the communists, Fabien Roussel, also said he would not be present.

However, PS and PCF could meet with environmentalists a little later during the day.

Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party, which pleads for a “clear, sincere and massive” solution, will continue to request the resignation of Emmanuel Macron, invoking the weapon of the dismissal, to be examined on Wednesday in front of the National Assembly Office.

The far right courts the conservatives

The far right continued to support the variant of the early parliamentary elections.

Invited on Tuesday to BFM-TV/RMC, Jordan Bardella, the RN president, was ready to “extend” the hand of the Les Républicins (LR) party if RN does not get the absolute majority in case of the national meeting.

“To win, we have to unite,” he said.

“I am convinced that within Les Républicins there are some of the militants, supporters, voters, but also cadres and parliamentarians who do not want, like Mr. Retailleau, to merge with macronism,” he added.

“The latter, I am perfectly willing to reach out for a governance agreement,” Bardella said.

However, this option would intervene only if RN did not obtain the absolute majority in the National Assembly, ie 289 deputies.

“In the interest of the country, I will not show sectarianism and I want this majority to be as wide as possible,” he explained.
