“Romanian air force has intercepted the Russian drone, violating our national airspace near the Danube. Two (multi-purpose aircraft) F-16 from the 86th Air Base followed him until the drone left our aircraft, causing no damage or victims. “Romania condemns Russia's behavior and undertakes the necessary means to protect her sovereignty and security,” Tediu emphasized and added that Bucharest remains in constant contact with partners and allies from the EU and NATO.
The head of the ministry also called for “effective increase in the costs of grossly illegal and provocative activities of Russia by rapid adoption of the 19th Sanctions Package (EU) and the full range of funds provided for under NATO Operations Eastern Guard.”
“I will also raise the issue of Russia's actions at the UN General Assembly forum. I appeal to the international community for strictly complying with sanctions imposed on Russia,” she wrote.
On Saturday, the Defense Minister of Romania Ionut Mosteanu announced that the Romanian air force intercepted the drone, which flew into the airspace of this country. Television station Antenna 3 CNN informed that the authorities sent a message to the inhabitants of the Tulcza district at the border with Ukraine with an appeal to take into account maximum precautions.
