CSM Constanța is going through a complicated period. The club on the coast has not enrolled in the championship the senior teams at basketball.

A year ago, Constanța seemed to become the new capital of the Romanian basketball. The girls conquered for the first time the title of champion and debuted in the most important continental competition, Euroliga. The boys finished in 5th place and played for the first time in the European cups.

It all collapsed quickly, during a few months, and the city on the seaside remained this summer without senior team, both feminine and male. By accusing the delicate financial situation of the club, none of the teams, not even in the second league, was decided in the championship.

A year of crisis

The decision is even more unexpected as in the spring of this year, transfers from abroad has been used to keep the two bands on the waterline. The moves did not work, the girls finishing in 5th place, while the boys occupied the last position and relegated.

The problems started from the beginning of last season, when the salaries were no longer paid. Between the management of the club and the local authorities there was a harsh conflict, eventually resulted in the removal of former director Andrei Talpeș, accused of not classifying the budget allocated. The new leadership promised that he will not abolish any team, but claims that he could not continue with the two representatives of basketball due to debts.

“After a technical analysis with the specialized ones in the club, we then discussed in the Board of Directors and made these decisions. It is not a dissolution of the section, but simply about the non -conference in the championship, in the new season, of the two teams in seniors,” acknowledged the club director, Mihai Ochiuleț.ro.

Stop and junior!

In addition to the two senior teams, all the groups of juniors were also given up, even though among the players there were some great perspective. In fact, Amira Boucid and Anisia Cain, both international juniors of Romania, had debuted in the National League last season, at 16 years old. Only four junior teams have been kept, which will start in the new championship edition.

They are not the first teams abolished by CSM Constanța due to financial problems in the last period. Thus, last summer, the male volleyball, which evolved in the first division, at the beginning of the year, was completed, which had completed the season in the first place in the second league, and this summer was no longer enrolled in the second female volleyball team, playing in the second division and was formed exclusively.

As a result, the Constanta club is also represented in the team sports by the men's handball, which has lost almost all the top players and the technical staff, led by the coach George Buricea, and the female volleyball, which aims to classify in the first 8 places.
