The authorities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hagi, Utrecht and Eindhoven demand the right to introduce local bans for Fatbikes and e-Hulajnóg. They also want to transfer large cargo bikes to the road. The appeal is to improve safety – about 700 people in road accidents die a year in the Netherlands.

Fatbike is a specialized bike designed for riding in very difficult terrain, characterized by extremely wide tires.
As reported by the daily AD, the five largest cities of the Netherlands appealed to the government in The Hague for greater powers in the fight against the growing number of road accidents. In a letter to MPs, radical steps were proposed by city councilors for transporting Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hagi, Utrecht and Eindhoven. They want municipalities to be able to independently prohibit the use of electric scooters and Fatbikes and direct large cargo bikes to the road. “The bicycle path must remain a safe place for all cyclists, not just for the strongest and fastest,” wrote city representatives in a joint statement.
According to the latest data in the Netherlands, about 700 people die in road accidents, and 8,000 He is seriously injured. A special problem is fast and often illegally processed electric vehicles that increase speed differences on bicycle paths and cause collisions.
Local governments support the government plan to introduce helmets for underage users of electric bicycles, but they find it insufficient. They also postulate making a 30 km/h limit in built -up areas and a more effective fight against the import of illegal Fatbikes. The debate on traffic safety will take place on Thursday in parliament with the participation of ministers of infrastructure and justice.
