The Metropolitan Bucharest train enters a straight line

The Metropolitan Train Bucharest, one of the most ambitious urban infrastructure projects in the last 30 years, has made progress by issuing urbanism certificates for the first four stop points: Pajura, Basarab, Carpathians and the Triaj depot.

The documents, signed by the interim general mayor Stelian Bujduveanu, mark the transition from the planning phase to the effective implementation of the project valued at about 500 million euros.
“For me, this project is not only a signed paper, but a change that we feel each. I know what it means to lose hours in traffic, to stay on the roads or to look for solutions to get home faster.”wrote the interim mayor of the capital Stelian Bujduveanu, on his Facebook page.
According to him, the metropolitan train means “Less time wasted in traffic, fast connections between neighborhoods and localities around Bucharest, a modern, comfortable and environmentally friendly transport. ”

According to the preliminary analyzes of transport specialists, the operationalization of the metropolitan train on the Bucharest North section – Obor station could generate time savings.
Although urban planning certificates are an important step, the actual implementation is facing significant technical challenges. CFR SA must complete the modernization of the railway infrastructure to allow competitive commercial speeds – at present, on certain portions, the speed is limited to 5 km/h.
The City Hall of Sector 6 plans to continue the line of the line to the military, and the decision to cancel the railway infrastructure reaches the table of local councilors in Thursday, September 4, where their vote is waiting, according to Clubferoviar.
“The elimination of this non-functional infrastructure in an advanced state of degradation allows the optimal valorization of the land, according to the established destination, for the implementation of this project with an impact in the local community,” It is shown in the motivation from the approval report of the draft decision.
The draft decommissioning of the line between the Valea Cascades and Lujerului comes in the context in which several properties have already been expropriated. These are four lands that housed 2,414 meters of railway. In carrying out the work, CNCF CFR SA expressed its agreement on the decommissioning of the line section. According to a specialized report of the City Hall, the company specialized in the administration of the railway infrastructure “expresses their agreement on the accomplishment of this action and also manifests their entire availability for carrying out this project of public utility ”.
