President Donald Trump said he was applying a 90 -day break over new rates, while his commercial war is shaking the world economy, according to CNN.
At the same time, he announced that he increases the rates for China at 125%, intensifying his fight with Beijing.
Trump said he “authorized a 90 -day break and a substantially reduced mutual tariff during this period, of 10%, also with immediate effect.”
It was not immediately clear to which countries the break will apply. CNN contacted the White House for additional clarifications.
In the same message, Trump said he raises American tariffs on China while working to bring Beijing to the negotiation table.
“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the world's markets, by the present raise the tariff imposed by China by the United States to 125%, with immediate effect. At one point, we hope that in the near future, China will realize that the days when the US has plundered and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable.”
