The Israeli actress Gal Gadot will not be present this year at the Venice Film Festival after a protest organized by the Venice4Palestine artistic group has requested that the invitation and her colleague Gerard Butler be withdrawn due to their alleged support for the “genocide” committed by Israel in Fâșia Gaza.
Gal Gadot, who plays a leading role in the movie “In the Hand of Dante”, directed by Julian Schnabel and will be designed outside the Venice competition, is not among the stars that have confirmed their presence at the famous Italian cinema festival, informs the Italian agency ANSA, quoted by Agerpres.
The actress who performed the character Wonder Woman returned to the center of the controversy after the Venice4Palestine artistic group requested that the biennial organizers withdraw the invitation and actor Gerard Butler, as well as any artist or celebrity that would publicly and actively support genocide.
“A reckless protest”
The parties in the coalition in government in Italy have stated that the initiative of the Venice4Palestine collective is wrong.
Isabella de Monte, deputy from the Forza Italy party and vice-president for the Foreign Business Department within this party from the post-Berlusconi era, said:
“The dialogue and pluralism of ideas are the main tools that culture uses to overcome sectarianism. It is very good that the president of the biennial, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, stressed this in front of the 1,500 artists who demanded the boycott Gadot and her film with Gerard Butler.”
“It is a reckless protest, because, in the eyes of those who protest, Gal Gadot's only guilt is to be Israeli. The Venice Film Festival deserves respect,” she added.
The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place between August 27 and September 6.
