The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, said that the European environmental rules for the exploitation of rare mineral deposits have been improved to reduce red tape, as well as that financial resources have been allocated at the European level for such extractions.
Digi24.ro wrote on Wednesday that the Canadian company Leading Edge Materials discovered important deposits of rare minerals in the Apuseni Mountains, in a perimeter of about 25 square kilometers, located in the counties of Bihor and Arad.

Asked on Saturday on B1 TV about the deposits of rare minerals in Romania, Diana Buzoianu explained that the extraction “will be coordinated by the Ministry of Economy, which, by the way, also has mining activities under its control.”
“On the environmental side, we will have to make sure that the provisions at the environmental level, of course, are respected. We already know that at the European level we have had a discussion for more time in which financial resources have already been allocated to extract these rare minerals. We already have European regulations that talk about landfills, for example, which could be greened by using these methods to actually extract the rare metals. We have situations in Romania where we can green such ponds with such methods”, declared Minister Buzoianu.
She said “these resources are critical from a national security perspective, but also from an economic perspective.”
“We can create here, in Romania, a market for this area. So from an environmental perspective, we will have to see that the provisions are indeed respected”, added the Minister of the Environment.
Diana Buzoianu stated that the environmental rules “have been improved” at the European level, “in the sense that there is no longer so much bureaucracy, so that this exploitation can be done more quickly”.
“Obviously, there is a process that must be carried out and we will follow it exactly as the negotiated regulations write”, concluded the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu.
