Works related to the construction of a conservation tenement house, which is to be erected at ul. Piotrkowska 58 – said the City Hall of Łódź on Tuesday. This investment has long been expected by residents, because it will fill the hole in the frontage, which for 16 years will disfigure the most representative street of the city.

According to the announcement sent by the Łódź magistrate, workers began by removing the remains of the wall after the former tenement house, which was demolished in 2009 by the then owner – Łódź Zakład Energetyczny Łódź -Teren – later included in the structures of PGE Dystrybucja SA. Before the demolition, ŁZE undertook to rebuild the object, but he never realized it and the one -story ruin threatened passers -by for several years.

In the place of the former tenement house there will be a tenement house of a connoisseur-a five-storey residential and service building inspired by the architecture of the beginning of the 20th century. The project, implemented by Budomal in cooperation with conservation services, assumes faithful reproduction of the 1912 front facade – with decorative stucco, stylish balustrades and a mansard roof. Completion of construction is planned for the second half of 2026 – the Office of Promotion of the UMUs donated.

Kamienica at Piotrkowska 58 was founded in 1872–1876 on the initiative of David Israel Freind according to the project of the most outstanding of the pre -war architects of Hilary Majewski's boat. In 1912, the heirs of the owner built a building, adding four floors, seven balconies and a decorative mansard roof.

During World War II, the tenement house was partially destroyed. In the following decades she gradually lost architectural details; In the times of the Polish People's Republic, their removal was widely used in Łódź by “renovating” decorative facades. Comparing archival photographs of the building from the interwar period with post -war – without balconies, a characteristic roof and other details – it is difficult to recognize that it is the same object.

According to UM, the new building is to combine a historic form with modern solutions. The facade will be restored on the basis of pre -war plans, followed by a residential space with service premises on the ground floor. According to the investor's assumptions, the connoisseur tenement house is to restore the aesthetics of ul. Piotrkowska and – like a hundred years ago – to revive this part of the historic center of Łódź, which once was teeming with life, and in recent years it has become very decayed. (PAP)
