It is about investments relevant from the point of view of water safety of residents; These are new flood tanks, pumping stations and flood shafts. Polish Waters have noted that each investment is adapted to a specific threat and to field conditions.

As the President of Polish Waters Mateusz Balcerowicz pointed out, in total, about 180 projects are implemented with the support of the state budget as part of an investment subsidy (PLN 250 million).

– Among them is, among others Tank Góra Ropczycka, which will increase flood protection for over 12,000 inhabitants of Sędziszów Lesser Poland. In addition, we modernize the Besko reservoir dam, we build and modernize sections of the flood embankment; among others On the Vistula in the Otwock poviat, on the Oder in the Rhine Wieś commune and on the Warta in the Pyzdry commune – he informed. He added that modern pumping stations are created on the polder of Modła III and in the Stargard region, and protective works are carried out on watercourses such as Słupianka in the Płock region or the Krasna Potok in Cieszyn.

Polish Waters have noted that in addition to flood protection, investment works are carried out for the retention of local waters in the place where rainfall occurs. They explained that the tasks implemented on the basis of a plan to counteract the effects of drought allow to increase local water retention, which is of great importance for optimal irrigation of crops, but also a water ecosystem.

– These are local activities, focused in catchments, often small rivers, where retention of water in tributaries allows to limit the effects of drought and provide access to water where it is most needed. We are currently conducting or soon we will start work, including In the Niechwascz river catchments, Mała Ina, as well as on the Wolin Island – said Deputy President of Water Marcin Jarzyński. In addition – as he added – “we build and modernize the damages that are an important tool in the process of water retention”

PGWWP information shows that design work is also underway and administrative decisions for over 100 projects are obtained. Among them is, among others: revitalization of the Sulejów water reservoir, construction of the Racławice Śląskie flood tank on the Osobłędza river, construction of a angular tank on the Czarna Woda River in the Marcinowice commune or flood protection of areas located along the Łyna River – Bartąg and Olsztyn. In addition, works necessary to secure the Vistula bank in Rakowo, the construction of the left shaft of the Biała River in Tarnów or the structure of the pass on the threshold stabilizing the water level in Włocławek. In addition, works are also carried out aimed at increasing the retention of the Ślesiński Canal, reconstruction of water resources and improve the hydrological condition of the Warcica river basin as well as renovation of the Augustów lock on the Augustów Canal.

It was recalled that the contract of July 14, 2023 regarding a government targeted subsidy with an annual value of PLN 250 million enabled activities to increase water retention, flood protection, water renaturization and development of inland navigation.

Polish Waters also stated that on June 24, 2025, an annex was concluded to the special subsidy agreement, which included 181 tasks carried out in 2025. (PAP)
