Sikorski was asked on Saturday on TVN24 about the situation in Ukraine in the context of talks and negotiations around the peace plan for Ukraine. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to Saturday's article by the Wall Street Journal, which reported that behind the peace talks between US President Donald Trump's negotiators and Russia there are hopes for opening the Russian economy to American investors, and some of them are already preparing to return to Russia. According to the daily, tempting people with lucrative deals is a conscious strategy of the Kremlin.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assessed that if it was really about the fact that part of the American negotiations aimed at Ukraine making territorial cessions in exchange for multi-hundred-billion-dollar businesses for American corporations in Russia, it could be “like Nord Stream, but times a hundred.”

He noted that it is not yet known whether American diplomacy will strive for a quick agreement on Ukraine, at the expense of Kiev. – But there's something going onbecause there are serious people involved there. And then, of course, Donald Tusk's government, which categorically supports international law, the guarantees that Ukraine has from the United States, and continued support for Ukraine, may be inconvenient, he noted.

Sikorski noted that “WSJ” indicates that this is the plan of part of the American administration, and that there are also other views there. He estimated that the article would generate a lot of interest and “generate antibodies” because not everyone in the US would be happy with such plans. Nevertheless, he said, this was not good news for Europe. – We now have such a disturbing series of events – he emphasized.

When asked about speculations about the possible handing over of Donbas by Ukraine, Sikorski emphasized that he would not speculate on this topic. – Military aspects are important because Ukraine should come out of this war with borders that can be defended – because if it doesn't come out, then it is a recipe for another war. So I hope that everyone who is thinking about these matters today knows what they are doing, Sikorski said.

Poland will not take part in trading Ukrainian lands, we will review such things, not make fun of them – he announced.

“WSJ” describes the efforts of a number of American companies and businessmen to prepare for their return to Russia. Oligarchs close to Putin, including Gennady Timchenko, Yuri Kovalchuk and the brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, were to send their representatives to meetings with American businesses on the extraction of raw materials in Russia. According to a Western security official quoted by the daily, they offered concessions for gas extraction in the Sea of Okhotsk and four other places, as well as for the extraction of rare earths near Norilsk and in Siberia.

The person willing to take over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a donor to the Trump campaign, investor Stephen Lynch, who paid PLN 600,000. hole. a lobbyist associated with the president's son, Donald Jrto license this transaction. Another friend of Donald Jr., businessman Gentry Beach, is said to be in talks to purchase shares in a gas extraction project in the Russian Arctic. In turn, the deputy director of ExxonMobil was to negotiate with the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin in Qatar, to return to investing in the large Sakhalin 2 project. This project was suspended due to sanctions imposed in 2022. ExxonMobil, investor Todd Boehly and others were also to talk about the purchase of the assets of Lukoil, which is subject to sanctions.

As the newspaper writes, there is no evidence that these businessmen coordinated their activities with Trump's team. Nevertheless, the “WSJ” article aroused very critical comments from supporters of a tough stance towards Russia. (PAP)
