An explosion that took place in an armament plant in the Riazan region led to the death of 11 people, the Russian authorities reported, who consider that the most likely track of non-compliance with safety rules, AFP informs.
“During searching for rubble, two other bodies were found. Unfortunately, 11 people died,” the Ministry for Emergency Situations said on Telegram. About 130 people were injured, and more than 360 rescuers act at the scene.
The local press claims that the event took place on Friday morning in a workshop with explosive subjects, publishing images of the catastrophe showing a column of smoke rising to the sky.

The explosion took place at the Elastik plant, located 60 kilometers from Riazan, the capital of the region. The factory produces explosives and ammunition. In 2021, an accidental explosion caused 17 dead in the same factory.
Rostek state conglomerate, which provides industrial and high technology products to civil and military sectors, announced that the wounded were transported to the hospital with the helicopter.
Although Ukraine constantly hits, with the help of drones, military targets in Russia, the Moscow authorities did not evoke the possibility of an attack in this case.
The Russian Investigation Committee stated that an investigation for violating security rules “in dangerous industrial places” opened.
Accidental explosions or fires are common in Russia due to the age of infrastructures, often dating from the USSR period, and/ or non -observance of security rules.
