A major technical failure of the GT/GB steam cracker compressor GT/GB 201 performed at the Litvínov production plant in the Czech Republic in the Czech Republic – said Orlen Unipetrol. According to the company, the failure occurred as a result of a total interruption in the supply of electricity on July 4, 2025.

On July 4, unplanned and sudden exclusion of all production units, which resulted in a number of mechanical damage to individual steam crackers devices, took place at the Litvinov plant.

The GT/GB 201 compressor failure was revealed only after its full load. It led to an unplanned exclusion of steam crackers and related production technologies – it was written in the message Orlen Unipetrol.

“The above has a significant negative impact on our production and limits the use of the production capacity of the refinery in Litvínovwhich has a significant impact on the products of the petrochemical department ” – added.

Orlen Unipetrol has announced that this event is an extraordinary, unforeseen and insurmountable obstacle, occurring regardless of the will of Orlen Unipetrol and remaining outside its control, i.e. force majeure.

“The occurrence and maintenance of the obstacle indicated above – the event of the nature of force majeure – prevents Orlen Unipetrol South Africa from proper performance of liabilities arising from contractual findings with business partners” – wrote in a statement.

Orlen Unipetrol estimates that the obstacle – a force majeure – excludes any liability from Orlen Unipetrol and releases the company from its obligations arising from or in connection with contractual arrangements with its business partners, including, without restrictions, from liability for compensation for damage or other loss or from other obligations or liability arising from other contractual provisions providing for the resources.
