Cristian Preda, the former dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Bucharest, said on Thursday that he did not regret that he voted on Klaus Iohannis in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, but the “disappointment created” by the former president “will not be able to be equal”.

“For 9 years in the state, former President Iohannis is summoned by ANAF to pay almost one million euros for the rents collected illegally. I do not regret that I voted, because Ponta and Dăncilă were much worse, but the disappointment created by Kwi will not be equal …”, the former MEP Cristian Preda wrote.

The statements of the political scientist come in the context in which the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) to notify Klaus Iohannis that they have to pay 4.7 million lei, representing the amount collected from rents, plus penalties and interest, for the building in Sibiu that the former president is definitively lost in court.

This is the house on Nicolae Bălcescu street 29 in Sibiu, which the former presidential couple held in 1999-2016, collecting over 320,000 euros from the rent paid by Raiffeisen Bank for the ground floor of the house, according to riseproject.ro. With this money, he wrote the investigation publication in an article in 2015, Iohannis bought three other houses, thus obtaining other rental revenues.

In November 2015, the Brasov Court of Appeal established that the building was illegally owned by Iohannis spouses. Thus, in April 2016, the family ownership title was radiated from the land book.

In September 2024, the Iohannis family lost a second building in Sibiu, on Gheorghe Magheru Street, by the definitive decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
