The “Stand Up Alaska” NGO intends to organize a protest before the future meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, a planned summit to have US-USic state, according to a statement from the non-governmental organization.

While Washington is looking for a way to end the Ukraine war, the meeting on Friday, August 15, between Trump and Putin will mark their first face-to-face discussion from the beginning of the second term of the Republican President.

“We are here to tell Trump and Putin: Alaska opposes tyranny!”, “Stand Up Alaska” said, in the statement issued Monday, August 11, according to The Kyiv Independent.

The meeting, scheduled for August 14 in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is organized to protest the “presence of an international war criminal” and to show solidarity with Ukraine, the NGO said.

The governor of Alaska, Mike Dunleavy, previously said that the state is ready to host the future meeting between Trump and Putin, qualifying the “historian” event.

“Alaska is the most strategic location in the world, located at the intersection between North America and Asia, with Arctic, to the north, and the Pacific Ocean, to the south,” Dunvey wrote in a message published on the Social network X, on August 9.

“With only two miles that separate Russia from Alaska, no other place plays a more important role in national defense, energy security and the leadership of the Arctic area,” added the governor.

Trump announced the summit with Putin on August 8, and according to sources, he told Ukrainian and European leaders that the Kremlin is open to negotiations if the “Territory exchange” is part of the agreement.

Although it is not clear what would involve such an agreement, a source of the Presidency of Ukraine has told The Kyiv Independent that Moscow wants the full withdrawal of Kiev from the Donetk and Luhansk regions, partially occupied, offering the withdrawal of its forces from the limited areas it controls in the North-East regions.

Publicly, Putin asked the prohibition of Kiev's accession to NATO and the complete withdrawal of Ukraine from the partially occupied regions Donetsk, Luhansk, Herson and Zaporojie as prerequisites for peace negotiations.

For his part, Zelenski rejected the official transfer of Ukrainian territories to Russia and asked for a first step towards peace negotiations, a position supported by the European partners of Kiev.

Zelenski is about to bear discussions with European leaders and President Trump on Wednesday, two days before the Friday summit in Alaska.
