On Thursday morning, in the Union Hall at the Cotroceni Palace, where the coffin with the inanimate body of the former head of state was deposited on Wednesday, a short religious moment and the Guard ceremony will take place.
Subsequently, the funeral service will be officiated at the church in the “Cotroceni Palace” complex, according to Agerpres.
After the religious ceremony, the Guard of Honor, consisting of the military of the 30 Guard Brigade “Mihai Viteazul”will present the last honor on the Marinescu plateau. The national anthem will be turned, and the cortege will pass in front of the guard.
The cortege with the coffin of the former president of Romania will then move to the Ghence III Military Cemetery, on the route Gheorghe Marinescu Boulevard – Heroii Boulevard – Heroilor Boulevard – Bagdasar Street – Panduri Road – Geniului Boulevard – Răzoarei Street – Sării Road – Ghencea Ghencea Ghencea Cemetery 3.
At the entrance to the cemetery, the coffin will be located on a cannon affection and the honor will be presented.
The funeral will take place only in the presence of the family and the close ones.
The Ghencea 3 Military Cemetery is declared a military objective, and sources from the MApN confirm that Ion Iliescu's tomb will be guarded by the military after the funeral, according to sources from the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), quoted by Bucharest Bulletin.
Thursday was declared a national mourning day, and the flags of Romania were flown in Bern.
Ion Iliescu was head of the Romanian state between 1990 and 1992, 1992 – 1996 and 2000 – 2004.
He died on Tuesday, at the hospital '' Agrippa Ionescu '' in the Capital. Ion Iliescu was 95 years old.
