The magistrate made a brief characterization of the former president of Romania, who died on Tuesday, August 5, from the perspective of the one who investigated Iliescu in the Revolution file.
“Ion Iliescu died. I met him several times. It made me the impression of an elegant man (including from the point of view of behavior), a man with whom we discussed at the elevated level many issues, but a man who when it came to the 850 dead that occurred after December 22, 1989 turned into a kind of beast. His gaze became extremely sharp, his skin was visible and emanating negative-aggressive energy. Then he had the power to return to a state of calm enough ”, said former prosecutor Cătălin Ranco Pițu, for thought.
The act of referral of the court presents the way in which the group led by Ion Iliescu acted in December 1989 to permanently take over the power by a coup, masked by a so-called revolution.
Cătălin Ranco Pițu also stated that the files of the “Revolution” and “Mining” will now continue their judicial path faster, without having “opposition from the courts”.
“About the files of the Revolution and Mining, I appreciate that they will continue their judicial road, even without Ion Iliescu. The intuition tells me that from now on these files will no longer have opposition from the courts, especially from the ICCJ. It must be emphasized that from now on Ion Iliescu will be discussed from the historical perspective. In the light of the truth. the former magistrate said.
Also, Cătălin Ranco Pițu stated, in an interview with the truth, the fact that the revolution was only until December 22, 1990, but, with the power of power, in front of Ion Iliescu, everything was a state military blow, completed by manipulation and establishment of a psychosis.
Ion Iliescu will be buried on Thursday, August 7, at the Ghencea Military Cemetery 3 in the Capital, with military honors.
The day of August 7, 2025 was declared a national mourning day on the territory of Romania, in the memory of Ion Iliescu. All central and local public institutions and public authorities will fly the flag of Romania in Bern, the government said.
