American swimmer Katie Ledecky (28) prevailed in the final at 800 m free in the Singapore World Natation Championships, succeeding, with 8: 05.62, to set a new competition record. The younger rival, Summer Mcintosh (Canada) ended the competition, disappointed, on the 3rd place.
Katie Ledecky has refused to teach her world crown in the 800 m free, which she has held since 2013, since she was just a 16-year-old prodigious teenager.
In the fierce final played in the penultimate day of the Singapore World Natation Championships, she prevailed and kept the pressure set a group of young opponents, led by Canadian Summer Mcintosh (18 years), the one who had defeated it at 400 m free, where the American came to 3rd place.
This time, however, Ledecky was strong over the last hundred meters, managing to distance himself from Mcintosh and Lani Pallister in Australia and reach the first basin plate 8: 05.62, new championship record.
Pallister won the silver medal by 8: 05.98, a new record of Oceania, while Mcntosh returned to the bronze, in 8: 07.29, 1.67 seconds after the winner. Summer came out of angry water, biting his lip.
It was tight. It was tense. It was classic ledecky 🙌

Something further, still flooded with adrenaline, Katie hit the water with her palm, in a sign of emotional discharge. Her coaches, among whom the most grumpy was Anthony Nesty, the Olympic champion at 100 m butterfly, shared her triumph and discharge.
8: 04.12It is the world record of the sample, set by Katie Ledecky this year, on May 3, at Fort Lauderdale
Katie Ledecky, dominant at 800 m free and at the Olympic Games
Ledecky is dominant in this test not only at the World Cup, but also at the Olympic Games, where he won the gold medal in London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
It is the only athlete who has succeeded in imposing himself in the same individual test four times in a row, in any discipline. The only swimmer who has done the same thing is the compatriot Michael Phelps at 200 m mixed (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016).
At her 28 years, Ledecky was the oldest of the finalists of 800 m free. Her invincibility had been a little mcintosh chipped this year, in February, when she had beaten her in Orlando, Florida. But now, at least, Katie is up again, still intangible. And only the future will tell you how much it will be there.
