On Thursday, Tomczyk, together with The head of the Board of Military Engineering in the General Command of the RSZ, General Marek Wawrzyniak, went to Vilnius to meetings regarding, among others Program Targe East and an analogous program of the Baltic defense line, which is created in the Baltic States.

The Polish delegation visited one of about 30 material warehouses, which in recent months were created in Lithuania. In this type of institutions, the Lithuanian army accumulates all kinds of equipment, which is to hinder the movement of the opponent, e.g. reserves of anti -tank dams, steel “hedgehogs” or barbed wire. Such compositions are located near the borders, which, if necessary, will allow you to quickly distribute all kinds of dams in strategic places.

As the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense told journalists, similar compositions of materials – constituting an element of the east shield – will be organized in every commune at the border with Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia, in every border commune.

In turn, a logistics hub will be created in every border poviat, in which funds will be collected not only for the needs of the army, but also for civil defense and e.g. in the event of natural disasters. The compositions are to be managed by local governments, but part of their capacity is to be always intended for the needs of the army and the East shield.

Tomczyk noticed that the first place of this type has already been created, and ultimately there will be about 60.

During a visit to Lithuania, the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense met with two of his Lithuanian counterparts – Orijana Maszale and Tomas Godliauskas. After talking to them, he told journalists that Lithuania was another country that is interested in buying Polish anti -aircraft sets; He reported that the talks also concerned the involvement of Polish enterprises in the construction of the Baltic line of defense.

During the press conference, after the meeting, the deputy heads of the departments of the defense of Poland and Lithuania agreed that both the East shield and the Baltic line of defense – these are initiatives that should be supported by EU funds, including funds provided for under the SAFE program, which is about 150 billion in euros in the form of low -interest loans, from which EU countries will be able to use their own defense.

As part of the visit, the Polish delegation also visited Rudniki near Vilnius, where a military base is being created from scratch, in which around 1,000 will ultimately be stationed. soldiers from the German brigade deployed in Lithuania; A training ground is also created in the surrounding forests, where they will be able to train and practice various types of troops, including artillery and armored forces.

Ultimately, in Lithuania, a German brigade with about 5,000 is to be placed in Lithuania. soldiers with equipment, including e.g. Leopard tanks. Germany has been stationed in Lithuania since 2017; They are the framework of the NATO Framework Group in this country.

The brigade in Lithuania is a new unit in the Bundeswehr structure – 45th Armored Brigade, which formally started operating in April this year. This is the first such large military unit in the contemporary history of the German armed forces, which will be permanently distributed abroad.

As the representatives of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense emphasized in an interview with PAP, the complex in Rudniki is the largest infrastructure investment in the history of the Lithuanian army. The first part of the complex is to be ready in 2027, and all investments related to the admission of the German brigade in Lithuania are to reach EUR 2 billion.

Currently, around the small village of Rudniki is a large construction site located almost in the middle of the forest – there are quickly erected there, among others Barracks, administrative buildings, garages for military vehicles and roads adapted to them.

The Baltic line of defense is a project implemented jointly by three Baltic States – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which coordinate their work on strengthening their borders with Belarus and Russia.

The project involves the preparation of boundaries to make the invading into the country to the maximum of the invaders as much as possible – among others anti -tank ditches or deployed in key places ready -to -heal hedgehogs, barbed wires or other types of dams, but also the natural environment, including frequent dense forests and wetlands frequent in this region.

The Polish East shield is a similar project, announced by the Ministry of National Defense and the army in the spring of 2024, which aims to secure borders with Russia and Belarus. The project includes the construction of fortifications, warehouses of various types of equipment, as well as Reconnaissance and anti -done installations, which will be located along the border.
