The government adopted a draft amendment to the Polish language act on Tuesday, submitted by the head of the Ministry of National Defense. The new regulations allow not to translate into Polish technical documentation of military equipment prepared in a foreign language. The solution will be used in the individuals of evaluated and justified cases.

In a statement on the website of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, after Tuesday's meeting, it was explained that now, when the army buys foreign military equipment together with technical documentation in a foreign language or documentation itself, it must be translated into Polish and then updated on the same terms.
“After the change, you will not need to explain such documents. The solution will be used in justified situations, when the standard in a given industry is the use of a foreign language (e.g. English in aviation), or when the translation is unprofitable and unnecessary, because a foreign language version of technical documentation is used on a daily basis,” reads the communiqué.
It was indicated that the change of regulations would allow, among others: to increase the safety of the use of equipment and the protection of the life and health of the staff, as a result of limiting the risk of errors that may result from imprecise translation of documentation; Accelerate the introduction of military equipment to the functioning of the Polish Armed Forces and improve the process of its operation. In the authors' intention, the project is also to reduce the risk of refusal to certify equipment on the basis of translated technical documentation. In addition, the implementation of new regulations is to reduce the costs of delivery and use of equipment – there will be no need to incur significant translation costs.
The new regulations are to come into force 14 days after its announcement in the Journal of Laws. (PAP)
