Not every Syrian will go to the Urns, there will be no political parties or election posters – noted Deutsche Welle.

Initially, it was planned that the new assembly would include 150 members, but after public consultations this number was increased to 210. One third was to be appointed by the current authorities.

“Reality in Syria does not allow traditional choices, taking into account the presence of millions of people internally and externally resettled, lack of official documents and the fragility of the legal structure,” said in June the temporary government of Syria, explaining why the elections will be indirect.

Elections in Hasace, Rakka and Slide – three provinces dominated by minorities, Druz and Kurds – will not take place in October due to the “lack of a safe and stable environment,” the authorities said earlier. They are to be organized only after restoring “appropriate security and political conditions”. This argument was rejected by local authorities, claiming that the areas of northern and eastern Syria are the safest compared to other parts of the country, and the whole election process is a continuation of the marginalization and exclusion policy, which affected the Kurds over 52 years of the Asad clan rule – Kurdish media informed.

The newly elected authorities will take over the reins from the transitional administration ruling in Syria, which emerged from the fundamentalist organization of Hajat Tahrir Ash-Szam (HTS). This armed group played the leading main role in the offensive, which in December last year. She led to the overthrow of the Assad regime. The leader of the Ahmed Al-Szara group is currently the temporary president of Syria. (PAP)
