Nicuşor Dan said on Wednesday, when the SRI and SIE chiefs will be appointed. The head of state mentioned that this will happen after having a discussion with the parties.

“After a discussion with parties, in the coming weeks”, Stated the President of Romania, after being asked, in a press conference, when the heads of the Secret Services will be appointed
Nicuşor Dan stated, in relation to the appointment of the director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), that he does not want to play games and propose people to reject.
“The proposal is done by the president and of course being this delicate moment I do not want to make games, to propose people to eventually reject. I will consult with the parties, but the constitutional appointment is done by the president”, Said Nicuşor Dan.
Asked if he thinks of a name for the head of the SRI, the head of state replied: “I had this discussion with the parties, and before the Government formation. The proposal will come from me, obviously I will consult them, but the proposal will come from me. I have some people in my head as I had for the Constitutional Court. I'm still in the process of analysis. As well as for SIE“, President Nicuşor Dan said.
The position of director of the SRI is vacant since the summer of 2023, after the resignation of Eduard Hellvig, and in the case of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), the current director is Gabriel Vlase.
