INSCOP survey: How patriotic do Romanians say they are. Almost 9 out of 10 citizens say they love Romania

Almost 9 out of 10 Romanians say they love Romania and are proud of their country, while only a small part of the population is against this feeling. The data emerge from the latest “Informat.ro Barometer – INSCOP Research”, which analyzes the public perception of national identity.

According to the results, 75% of respondents totally agree with the statement “I love Romania and I am proud of my country”, and 13.2% show partial agreement. At the opposite pole, cumulative disagreement reaches only 5.7% (2.6% partial disagreement and 3.1% total disagreement), while 4.7% of participants chose a neutral position.
Although patriotism remains a strong identity binder, the numbers hide important nuances. According to INSCOP, areas of partial agreement or indecision indicate that, for a segment of society, attachment to the country depends on socio-economic realities, personal experiences or the level of trust in state institutions.

Young people and USR voters, more moderate in their statements
Sociological analysis reveals a polarization according to political sympathies and age. The electorate of the traditional parties, PSD and PNL, declare an almost unanimous attachment to the idea of patriotism. In contrast, USR sympathizers express a more tempered sentiment.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 29, a category significantly present among USR sympathizers, report a level of declared patriotism of 73%, well below the national average of 88%. Sociologists explain this phenomenon by high international mobility, a globalized digital culture, but also by a more critical attitude of the young generation towards the state and administration.
“A partial explanation is also related to the fact that young people between the ages of 18-29 who are among the sympathizers of this party stand out quite clearly from the rest of the population through a slightly lower declared level of patriotism (73% compared to 88% as the average for the total population), a phenomenon probably correlated with exposure to international mobility, globalized digital culture and a more critical attitude towards the state”. said the director of INSCOP Research, Remus Ștefureac.

The data were collected between June 20-26, 2025, by means of telephone interviews. The sample included 1,150 people, being representative of the significant socio-demographic categories of the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 and over. The maximum allowable error of the data is ± 2.9% at a 95% confidence level.
