The Polish programmer wins with AI. This is a historical success in Japan

“Humanity has won (for now!)” – In these words, he summed up his clash with artificial intelligence, Przemysław “Psyho” Dębiak. A 42-year-old programmer from Gdynia won the most prestigious Atcoder World Tour Finals 2025 (Heuristic Division) programming competition, which took place in Tokyo this year.

The Pole in the competition faced 11 opponents, including with an advanced model of artificial intelligence. Considered one of the most prestigious programming tournaments in the world, AWTF invites only 12 best programmers – people, and in this year a model of artificial intelligence built by Opennai.
As noted by the “Tom's Hardware” website, it was widely expected that the AI model, marked with the OPENAIAHC brand, would dominate the coding competition. The Pole after a murderous 1-hour coding marathon took first place. The AI model took second place. Dębiak admitted that during the whole event he slept only 10 hours for three days. CEO OPENENAI, Altman himself, aptly replied: “Good job, psyho”.
The only man in the world who won with AI is Polish
As noted by the “Tom's Hardware” website, the Heuristic approach of Przemysław Dębiak, which used abbreviations in solving problems and learned guesses instead of brutal calculations, provided him with victory.
The administrator of the Yoichi Iwata competition praised the distinctive method. He noticed that Although artificial intelligence led in strict optimization, it “did not match human creativity.”
Dębiak himself he denied the appearing information that he defeated the GPT cottage. “I really beat the version that was designed for this competition to get the best result,” explained the Polish programmer at Polsat News.

According to Euronews, Przemysław Dębiak is a multiple winner of international programming competitions, as well as an expert in the field of algorithmics and artificial intelligence. “Psyho” is also a member of Mensa and multiple Polish champion in solving puzzles. Some industry websites reveal that in the past Dębiak cooperated with OpenAI, where as an engineer he helped the development of artificial intelligence Dota 2.
