The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who was on a working visit to the UK, was received on Thursday by King Charles III at his residence in Sandringham, informs News.ro.
“The support of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland gives us confidence to go with decisions on the path of democracy,” wrote Maia Sandu on Facebook in a post that thanks for “warm reception”.
The Royal House confirmed the visit by a post on the X platform, in which he published a photo with President Maia Sandu shaking with King Charles, specifying that the meeting took place on Thursday morning at the royal residence Sandringham House.
On Wednesday, on the first day of the visit to the UK, Maia Sandu met with the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, being the first bilateral meeting at this level, between a Moldovan president and a prime minister of the United Kingdom, writes Newsmaker.
“We discussed how we can strengthen the friendship between Moldova and the United Kingdom, how we can make Moldova stronger, attract British investments and create jobs at home,” Maia Sandu said on Facebook.
The president of the Republic of Moldova mentions that fruit exports to the United Kingdom have grown a lot in the last year. “Our plums, apples and grapes reach the tables of more and more British, due to the elimination of tariffs for several Moldovan products,” says Maia Sandu.
She also announced that the two governments have agreed a new agreement, which will allow Moldovans in the United Kingdom to change their driving licenses in the first five years of residence without additional exams, starting August 1.
