The Briton who injured more than 130 people in May during the parade organized after Liverpool won the Premier League was sentenced to 21 and a half years in prison on Tuesday.

On May 26, 2025, 54-year-old Paul Doyle drove into the crowd celebrating Liverpool's title win. He admitted his guilt during the trial and reasoned that he resorted to this attack because he lost his temper.

At Monday's hearing, prosecutor Paul Greaney described the man as “an angry man, completely overcome by anger” when he deliberately drove his car into the crowd and injured 134 people, eight of whom were children.

“Not only did it cause widespread injury, but it also caused terror among those who had taken part in what they thought would be a joyous day,” explained the prosecutor.

“Contempt for Human Life”

Defense lawyer Simon Csoka told the court that “the defendant is horrified by what he has done, he is full of remorse, shame and deep regret for everyone who has been hurt or suffered.”

In announcing Doyle's sentencing, Judge Andrew Menary said it was “almost impossible to understand how a person in their right mind could act in this way”.

“To drive a vehicle into the crowd of pedestrians with such insistence and disregard for human life defies common understanding,” the judge told him directly.

Footage taken during the parade shows people being thrown up by the car driving into the crowd. When the car stopped, angry fans rushed towards it and started banging on the windows and opening the doors as the police intervened to stop them from arresting the driver.
