FC Botoșani Coach Sees Potential in Jovan Markovic as Top Striker

Marius Croitoru, the head coach of FC Botoșani, has expressed strong confidence in Jovan Markovic, the club’s new addition, suggesting he has the potential to become the best striker in Romania. The coach revealed that Markovic is currently undergoing a specialized training program aimed at revitalizing his career.
Croitoru outlined that while they have high expectations for Markovic, achieving those goals will require significant effort from the player himself. “This is a parameter we set when he came to us. He might not reach it immediately. There are numerous programs available, and he hasn’t spent much time outside his comfort zone. We’re pleased with the progress so far, but our goal is to advance further,” he noted.
The coach aims for Markovic to stabilize at an 86-87 training program level to prepare him for competitive play, asserting confidence that with dedication, Markovic can indeed become the premier striker in Romania. However, Croitoru emphasized the importance of mutual desire in this journey: “If we want it more than he does, that creates a challenge. Our role is to support him, but he must also want it for himself,” he said.
Croitoru added, “I believe, though I cannot say 100%, that this is the moment for him to realize he is at a crossroads in his career. As a father, I am sure he understands the responsibilities and the pressure he faces regarding his future.”
Last season, Markovic scored six goals while playing for Farul Constanța but was released at the season’s end due to physical issues and faced challenges during his medical examination with Botoșani. He ultimately passed and signed a contract. In the first two rounds of the new Superliga season, Markovic played a total of 20 minutes, with 4 minutes against FC Voluntari and 16 minutes versus Rapid.
Currently, his market value is estimated at 400,000 euros.
