Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron sue the American content creator, Candace Owens, known for her right -wing political positions. Owens claimed that France's first lady is, in fact, a man, and President Macron is controlled by the CIA, writes The Guardian.
In the complaint filed on Wednesday, Macron spouses claim that Owens had several constant defamatory attacks on them to increase their media visibility, to attract more public and to make money.
Owens said at the beginning of 2024 that he puts “the whole reputation in the game that Brigitte Macron is, in fact, a man.” Since then, she has repeated this statement, including through a series of eight podcasts called Becoming Brigitte.
Among the accusations launched by the content creator are the fact that Brigitte Macron stole the identity of another person, that the President of France and the first lady are blood relatives and that the two commit forgeries, frauds and abuses of power.
“Because Mrs. Owens has systematically reaffirmed these untruths in response to every repeated request of our lawyers to retract them, we finally came to the conclusion that the only remaining path was to call the court,” Macron spouses said, quoted by The Guardian.
“Mrs. Owens's defamation campaign was obviously designed to harass, cause us new pain and our family and to attract attention and notoriety. We offered her every opportunity to withdraw these statements, but she refused. Our sincere hope is for this process to clarify the truth and to put this campaign.
The trial was filed after Macron's spouses sent three separate requests to withdraw to Owens, accompanied by evidence that denied their statements, but this used to “cause even more Macron” and “inventing even more harmful lies”, according to a press release issued by the Locke house.
