It's official: Serena Williams is back in tennis. The first tournament in which he will play

Former world number 1 Serena Williams, winner of 23 Grand Slam titles and absent from the tennis circuit since the 2022 US Open tournament, will resume her career next week, in doubles, at Queen's, the organizers of this London grass tournament announced on Monday.

Serena Williams (44 years old) returns to the circuit almost a year after her older sister, Venus, who resumed her professional career at 45 years old, in July 2025.

Serena Williams will pair up in the doubles event of the Queen's grass tournament with the Canadian player Victoria Mboko (19 years old), informs News.ro.

The tennis legend, who has not played since 2022, since the defeat suffered by the Australian player Ajla Tomljanovic (7-5, 6-7 [4]6-1) in the third round at the US Open, he did not officially end his career.

Re-registered on the anti-doping lists from August 2025, she has the right, starting from February, to play again in official matches. Out of the WTA rankings for several years, she requested a wildcard to enter the Queen's tournament.

The London tournament officially confirmed the news on Monday, minutes after posting a video of the player on its social media, showing her practicing on a tennis court as notifications rang out on her mobile phone with the caption “Good news travels fast”.

The WTA immediately followed suit, with several posts announcing the return of the former world number 1.
