
On the air of the program “Live great!” (18+) TV presenter Elena Malysheva and cardiologist German Gandelman listed the most common mistakes when measuring pressure.
It is not recommended to measure immediately after emotional stress, meals or drinks containing caffeine, smoking or intensive physical activity.
Before measurement, you must calmly sit on a chair with a support for the back for at least 5 minutes. The hand should be relaxed and lie on the table, remaining motionless during the procedure. The legs should not be crossed, the feet should stand in parallel. It is important to maintain calm, not be distracted and avoid talking.
The tonometer cuff should be 2-3 cm above the elbow bend, while being at the level of the heart. The cuff should not be tightened too tightly, one or two of the finger should pass freely.
Measure the pressure three times with an interval of 1-2 minutes. The first dimension is usually not taken into account; for the calculation, the arithmetic value of the second and third measurement is taken.
Do not measure blood pressure over the clothes, especially if it creates folds that exert additional pressure on the arteries of the hand. This can lead to a distortion of results.
The indicators on the right and left hand may vary, so determine the hand on which the pressure is usually higher, and use it for further measurements.
