All the external sources of electricity supply of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, occupied by Russia, are interrupted on Friday, the UN nuclear supervisory agency announced, while Ukraine denounced the damage, following the recent Russian bombings, and the last electric food line, Reuters reports.

Although all the six reactors are stopped, the Zaporojie plant-the largest nuclear power plant-needs continuous power supply to keep its nuclear fuel and avoid a possible accident.

On Friday afternoon, Diesel generators went on, the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) informed.

Aiea has repeatedly warned the risk of a catastrophic accident in Zaporojie, which is located near the front line in the Ukraine war.

“The Zaporojie Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine has lost all the power supply from outside the site at 5:36 pm today, for the 9th time during the military conflict and the first time since the end of 2023,” said AIEA on network.

The Ukrainian Minister of Energy, German Galușchenko, wrote on Telegram that a Russian blow interrupted access to the boiler: “The enemy hit the electric line that connects the temporarily occupied power plant (the Zaporojie nuclear power plant) with the integrated energy system of Ukraine.”

Instead, neither AIEA nor Russia's leadership in Zaporojie specified the cause of energy supply. “The reasons for the disconnection are under clarification. The equipment of the boiler are in a safety state and are under the control of the staff. There have not been found violations of the safety conditions,” the Russian management of the boiler said.

This central is in the area of Energodar, not far from the front line that separates in the south of Ukraine the territories controlled by Kiev and those occupied by the Russian troops.

The Russian troops took control of the boiler in March 2022, when they invaded the territory of Ukraine, and since then the plant has been at the center of a nuclear security crisis due to the almost constant bombings in its vicinity.
