Victoria Stoiciu, PSD vice -president, states on Wednesday that reducing the subsidy for political parties should have been one of the first austerity measures. In a Facebook post, Stoiciu says that it would have been a gesture of “solidarity and responsibility” that the reduction of the subsidy would be among the first measures adopted, not postponed for autumn.
“I personally would have liked a pack of austerity to start by reducing the subsidy for political parties. It was a sign of solidarity and responsibility. Now Mr. Bolojan announces that the reduction of the subsidy will be done at the budget rectification. Not in the 3 austerity packages announced for this summer, but only in the autumn,”
The PSD vice-president points out that, in this scenario, the subsidies will be diminished only for the last 2-3 months of the year.
“This means that I am concrete, the subsidy will be reduced for 2-3 months, as long as the rectification remains until the end of the year. It seems to me that we start with the left. Let us not be surprised that the confidence of the people will not be restored, but on the contrary, and others will take full advantage,” continued the PSD vice-president.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was asked on Wednesday if he informed Nicușor Dan about the intention of the Government to increase the VAT rate and, at the same time, where are the “equity” and “social justice”, given that we do not see, instead, a “money cut” received by parties from the state.
“By the budget rectification that will be done in the next period, you will see this measure (reducing the subsidies for parties, no), which I personally will support, because, in the hard times we cross, everyone, people who earn better and all the citizens of our country must be part of this effort,” I have to contribute to this effort, “
On Wednesday, the prime minister announced that the reduction of the excessive budget deficit will be done through three packages of measures that will be adopted successively in the coming months. The first such package will be adopted by assuming the responsibility of the Government in the Parliament, the next week.
Among the measures that will be part of this project are VAT reassemble on two thresholds, general share to 21% and a reduced share of 11% (drugs, food, horeca), increase in dividends from 10% to 16%, increased alcohol, tobacco, fuel by 10%, freezing the increase of pensions and salaries in 2026 Pay the contribution to health, tax on banks' profits and gamble gains.
All the measures announced will enter into force from August 1, 2025, except for the increase of dividends taxes that will be applied from January 1, 2026.
