The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) said on Thursday that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was not involved in any road accident, after posting in the online space announcing the death of the prime minister.
“We point out that in the online environment, on false social media accounts, the false information is disseminated according to which the Prime Minister of Romania would have died in a road accident. We emphasize that the information is false!
The institution also published a capture with one of the posts distributed online, which mimics the format of a news. “Left too early: the Prime Minister of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, died in a shocking accident …”, is the title of false news.
In the spring, the authorities drew an alarm signal on an influencing campaign of the presidential elections in Romania, carried out through a network of cloned pages that mimic official sites, televisions and publications.
The distributed messages were designed to generate fast emotional reactions, presented in the form of “explosive disclosures” and accompanied by suggestive images, some of them generated with the help of artificial intelligence, on sites that are strikingly similar to some consecrated ones, thus misleading users.
“A network of cloned sites has been identified, which just mimics the image of the official websites of some public institutions, televisions and important press agencies (the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Health, TVR 1, Digi24, Hotnews, Adevărul, Freedom), used to promote the deceitful content, on the social, political, of its perception, ”explains ANCOM.
Serious warning before elections: Official sites were cloned. Indections related to Russian involvement in misinformation operation/ MEASURED MEASURES
