Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said on Tuesday that he is open to a meeting with US President Donald Trump, on the funeral of Pope Francis, who will take place in the Vatican on Saturday.

“Yes, I wish, I am ready. We are always ready to meet with our partners in the United States,” Zelenski said, in a press briefing, according to AFP.

If it will take place, the meeting on Saturday would be the first direct meeting between the two leaders from the tense replica exchange in the Oval Bureau in February, which ended with Zelenski's impetuous departure from the White House.

We recall that, in February, Donald Trump described Volodimir Zelenski as a “dictator”, and then withdraws his comment a few days later.

Most recently, Trump accused his predecessor Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski of not being able to prevent the Ukraine war.

At the funeral of Pope Francis, the Ukrainian president will be accompanied by the first lady, Olena Zelenska, according to the presidential counselor Dmyro Lytvyn, quoted by The Kyiv Independent.

Donald Trump, who ordered the lowering of the American flag in Bern as a homage to the Pontiff, will also participate in the ceremony, along with his wife, Melania.

Pope Francis died on Monday, on the second Easter day, at the age of 88, after a stroke and a cardiac arrest. The funeral service will be carried out in Saint Peter Square, on Saturday, and will be led by Giovanni Battista Re, the 91 -year -old dean of the Vatican Cardinal College.
