Russia increases tank production and creates a strategic reserve, “Le Figaro” said, citing its sources and data from independent analytical groups. At the same time, it can be seen that the role of tanks on the battlefield has changed with modern solutions, including drones.

From the beginning of the war, Russia has lost about 4,000 tanks – the Oryx analytical portal estimated. “Le Figaro” pointed out that since such machines have been driving on the battlefield, no side of the conflict had had such large losses before.

Russian factories work at full speed, producing new tanks and repairing those that have stood for years, “catching dust”.

In March 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron estimated that Russia currently had 4,000 tanks, in 2030, it will have 7,000 of them. The journal, asking himself how it is possible that with such great losses the Russian Federation is able to increase its machine park, he pointed out that until now, this year, the aggressor has only lost about 200 tanks.

According to “Le Figaro”, lower losses result from a smaller participation of tanks in the fights on the front, which is caused by a revolution in the use of drones. Incredibly effective in destroying all kinds of armored goals. Some military people use the term “demechanization” of the battlefield, which is associated with increasingly frequent use of light vehicles such as motorcycles or quads.

As Conflit Intelligence Team, a group of Russian experts analyzing the Russian assault to Ukraine, who left Russia in connection with the uninterrupted oppression on the part of the Putin regime, Russia has a very diverse fleet of tanks. Among them are, among others T-54, T-55, T-62, T-64, T-72, T-80 and T-90, which is still produced. Other machines are taken from machine parks and adapted back to the front.

“Among these 7,300 tanks adapted to return to the front at the end of 2024 there were less than 3,500” – assessed analysts from CIT. Meanwhile, only last year, the Russians managed to fix between 11 and 12 thousand. tanks. Nevertheless, an officer of the French army in a conversation with “Le Figaro” suggested that one should be more cautious, because according to the data of the American Institute of War Studies in 2021, reserve reserves from Soviet times amounted to 12,000. machines.

“Every month, T -90M tank resources increase by 20 machines,” he told the journal a high -ranking French military. In total, 1500 new machines (300 new T-90M and 1,200 renewed Soviet vehicles) come. In addition, the Russians were to “postpone” at least 500 tanks to power their strategic reserve.
