Good news for all drivers who will want to travel on the A4 motorway in the future. The ministry gave a specific date when the A4 ride on the Krakow-Katowice section will be free. It is worth adding that the changes will cover light vehicle drivers.

According to RMF FM, MP of Platforma Obywatelska submitted Interpellation on the fees for the ride on the Krakow-Katowice section of the A4 motorway. The parliamentarian wanted to know what the issue of the future of the A4 section would look like, which is currently managed by the Lesser Poland Motorway by StalexPort. Interpellation was related to the fact that the license of the entity expires in 2027.
“Drivers expect that after this date, the track of the motorway section will become free for light vehicles, as is the case with other highways managed by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways,” asked the MP in an interpellation, whose content is cited by RMF FM.

The deputy minister of infrastructure Stanisław Bukowiec gave a response to a parliamentary interpellation. “Starting from March 16, 2027, the A4 motorway on the Katowice – Kraków section will be managed by the General Director of National Roads and Motorways. The fee for the passage of lightweight vehicles (with a maximum total weight not exceeding 3.5 t) after the motorway section in question will cease to be charged at the end of March 15, 2027, “explained the deputy minister, whose words are cited by RMF FM.

In addition to indicating the date, since when the A4 ride on the Katowice – Kraków section, the deputy head of the Infrastructure Ministry will cease to explain that “there is no legal basis for extending the current concession agreement for the construction and operation of highway sections”. There is no reason to choose a new concessionaire.
This means that GDDKiA will have no grounds for charging light vehicles. The explanations of the deputy minister not only ends a long period of uncertainty, but also means a large financial relief for drivers who often move the A4 motorway.
