Minimum wage in the USA. Where do they pay the most?


Washington has the highest minimum wage in the U.S. at $17.95. (approx. PLN 64.40) per hour, while 20 states still either require a minimum wage of $7.25. (approx. PLN 26), or keeps it at the federal level by default.

Business Insider ranked the minimum wage in every U.S. state from highest to lowest. We have also marked the regions where increases occurred.

$17/hour or more

  • District of Columbia (Washington, DC): $17.95 (approx. PLN 64.40)
  • Washington (state): $17.13 (approx. PLN 61.50) — up from $16.66
  • New York*: $17 (approx. PLN 61.03) — up from $16.50

*This minimum wage applies only to New York, Nassau County, Suffolk County and Westchester County.

$16-17/hour

  • Connecticut: $16.94 (approx. PLN 60.82) — up from $16.35
  • California: $16.90 (approx. PLN 60.64) – increase from $16.50
  • Hawaii: $16 (approx. PLN 57.44) – increase from $14
  • Oregon*: $16.30 /$15.05/$14.05 (approx. PLN 58.47 / PLN 54.03 / PLN 50.50)

*The standard minimum wage in Oregon is $15.05 per hour. The minimum wage in the Portland metropolitan area is $16.30 per hour and in non-urban counties it is $14.05 per hour.

  • New York*: $16 (approx. PLN 57.44) – increase from $15.50

*Minimum wage outside New York, Nassau County, Suffolk County and Westchester County.
