Dorofeev Day
On this day, the holy martyr Dorofey Tirsky, who lived in the 3-4 centuries, honor.
In Rus', it was believed that the shortest nights of the year – “sparrows” begin with Dorofai. Also on this day a sleep-grass blooms, or a firefight. In accordance with its name, this grass evokes a dream, and shows their future life asleep. There was a saying: “The dream on Dorofei, but the prophetic.” They said that happiness comes in a dream in the form of a red girl or a good fellow, and the trouble turns into an old woman with a key.
The yellow and blue flowers of the sleep-grass are blooming at night. It’s just impossible to collect it – you need to know special conspiracies. It was believed that it was possible to find out the “correct” dream-grass by lowering it into key water on the full moon: it must certainly move.
Other beliefs were connected with the dream-grass. People believed that unclean power costs her in 12 miles.
