A survey conducted among 2,000 pet owners in the UK, TrustedhouseSiters found that 48% of the Z -generation respondents avoided planes because of their pets, and 63% said they choose holiday accommodation based on the fact that it is friendly to their pets, compared to 31%.
Over half of the questioned owners (52%) have acknowledged that they feel “Masters bad ” If they are gone too long. In a hypothetical situation, 27% said they would feel worse if they left their pet than if they left the child with a voucher.
“The fact that some people feel more guilt leaving a pet than a child with a bona is fascinating, but understandable. Pets are completely dependent on their masters, without being able to rationalize the absence, as they do older children. This intensifies the feeling of responsibility and guilt of the masters.” said the therapist Rebecka Parker.
More than half (53%) of pet owners are afraid that their pet thinks it has been abandoned when they are leaving. Pets are based on familiar and routine presence, unlike children, who can understand and process the temporary absence of a parent. This can lead to feelings of guilt for the owners, especially those with saved pets who could experience trauma in the past.
The study found that 43% of young people between the ages of 25 and 34 would feel more guilty of leaving a pet at home than a child, a higher figure than the general average of 27%. Young younger adults register higher rates of pets, 28% of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 holding a cat, and 40% a dog. For those between the ages of 25 and 34, holding increases to 34% for cats and 45% for dogs.
Rebecka Parker explained: “The younger generations, especially the millennials and the Z generation, tend to form stronger emotional attachments to the pets compared to the older generations. Many young adults today postpone the traditional stages such as marriage or birth of children, and pets naturally fulfill a feeding role, in a public, prejudices. ”
This trend is reflected in the demographic growth of Dinkwap (double income without children with pet), where pets are often prioritized to human relations. The study showed that 31% of pet owners felt more guilty that they left their pet than canceled their plans with a close friend, and 32% felt worse that they left a pet behind than they missed a family birthday.
“Changing” family “ideas-from rigid nuclear definitions to more fluid, chosen families-play an important role. Pets represent stability, love and connection in a flexible and rapidly changing world. Factors such as distance work, awareness of mental health and increase options for options Travel friendly with pets strengthen this trend.“Added the therapist.
