Free tree

A free tree in Rus' was called rose hips. From this day, as the people believed, the real summer began. So they said: “The rosehip blooms – the blush leads the year.”

In Rus', the rosehip was a symbol of youth, beauty and love. There was a legend about his origin: a beautiful young Cossack fell in love with a guy, but the village chieftain was seduced by her beauty, abducted the girl, and sent her fiancé to the war. The captive managed to flee to the forest; There she took herself in life, and a bush with pale pink fragrant flowers grew up on her grave. Once the chieftain saw this bush and decided to break off a branch with beautiful flowers, but it immediately covered with sharp spikes and torn the enemy’s hand into the blood.

The people were customary to come to the rosehip bush to get rid of sorrow, to calm the soul. And when the rosehip just bloomed, the grandmothers sat down under them with their grandchildren and told them fairy tales. It was believed that this would help children get rid of fears. The healing properties of rosehips were also appreciated.

These days, the so -called summer, or green, Christmas time began. It was customary to decorate at home with vegetation, curls wreaths on birches. They watched the signs: if it is raining at this time, then there will be many mushrooms.
